MATERIAL OVERVIEW

The Material

Malachite is a green copper carbonate mineral known for light-to-deep green bands, concentric rings, wave patterns, eye-like markings, and other layered structures. Natural pieces can vary widely in colour distribution and pattern density.

Polishing can intensify the contrast between darker and lighter green bands as they move across the curved surface of a carving. Because malachite is relatively soft and brittle, fine edges and naturally fractured areas require additional care.
