MATERIAL OVERVIEW

The Material

Dragon Bloodstone, also known as Dragon Blood Jasper, is an ornamental trade material recognised for its green ground and contrasting red, burgundy or brown-red markings. Patches, veins and irregular colour boundaries may be accompanied by darker brown, black, cream or pale areas. The balance and scale of these markings vary naturally between pieces.

Structurally sound material can hold detailed carving and take a smooth to glossy polish. Broad surfaces reveal the colour pattern, while curves and recessed details carry it through the sculptural form. Different mineral-rich zones can respond differently during polishing, giving each finished piece its own pattern and surface character.
