MATERIAL OVERVIEW

The Material

Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral that occurs in purple, green, blue, yellow and colourless forms. Natural pieces may show distinct colour bands, uneven colour zones and changes in transparency, giving each specimen its own distribution of colour and internal structure.

A polished surface can highlight these colours and natural variations across the carved form. Fluorite is relatively soft and has well-developed cleavage, so thin edges, projecting details and naturally fractured areas require careful handling.
