Where natural stone meets anatomical form, this Yooperlite skull brings a grey speckled surface that reveals orange-yellow fluorescence under suitable ultraviolet light into the defined structure of a human skull. Its polished surface reveals the material across the crown, face, and jaw, giving every piece its own natural character.

Material & Craft
The Material
Yooperlite is a trade name for sodalite-bearing syenite rather than a formal mineral species. It appears grey to dark grey in normal light, while sodalite-rich areas may fluoresce orange to orange-yellow under suitable ultraviolet illumination; brightness varies with composition, wavelength, and viewing conditions.
The Sculpture
Hand-carved into a stylized dragon skull, the sculpture is built around a low, elongated profile with a broad snout, recessed eye sockets, and a heavy interlocking jaw. Swept-back horns and smaller crest points extend from the crown, while layered side plates frame the eyes and rear of the head. Deep cuts around the nostrils, teeth, brow, and plate boundaries create strong shadow and definition across the polished stone, and the broad underside provides a stable display base.
Form & Meaning
The dragon is an imagined creature that appears in many mythic traditions, but this form is not tied to any single culture. Its extended jaws, horns, and armored profile suggest strength, vigilance, and endurance. Reduced to a skull-like structure and carved in natural stone, the mythical animal gains a physical presence—a meeting point between geological material and the forms people have imagined across generations.
Natural Variation Statement & Care
As each piece is individually carved from natural stone, dimensions and weight may vary slightly, while color may appear different under varying lighting.
Care: Dust with a soft cloth or clean briefly with a damp cloth and mild soap before drying. Avoid impacts, soaking, strong chemicals, thermal shock, steam, and ultrasonic cleaning.
