Keepers at the Threshold
Keepers of the Chamber imagines a mineral sanctuary under living guard. Serpents gather around the opening, their bodies becoming its boundary. The chamber remains the heart of the work, but its keepers decide the atmosphere: attentive, close, and quietly forbidding.
The Vision Behind‘Keepers of the Chamber’
We imagined a treasury hidden inside the stone, its crystals catching the faint light beyond a living threshold. Serpents coil around the entrance, their raised heads watching every approach. A glimpse of coins and gems draws us closer; the keepers give us reason to hesitate. We love that invitation and warning held together—the beauty of something precious, and the quiet certainty that it is already under guard.
A Sanctuary with Its Own Rules
We enjoy the sense that this little world was occupied long before we arrived. The serpents lie close around the crystal hollow, so still and settled that the chamber feels like a place they have guarded for ages. There is something irresistible about a forbidden entrance, especially when its keepers refuse to tell us what—or whom—they protect.
The Making of This Piece
The Opening Comes First
The natural druzy cavity sets the center and proportions of the composition. Carved serpents occupy the rim, giving its irregular border a continuous, animate rhythm. The mineral chamber remains large enough to hold the eye.
A Living Frame
Look closely at the serpents and you’ll find carefully carved scales, raised heads and winding bodies emerging from the agate. We love the contrast between the intricate textures and the smoother stone that connects them. Each creature has its own presence, yet together they form a living frame around the crystal chamber.
The Stone
Warm Agate, Crystalline Depth
Warm brown and grey agate surround the quartz druzy interior. The polished exterior gathers broad reflections while the crystal bed produces many finer ones. That contrast gives the imagined sanctuary both a solid boundary and a bright, unsettled heart.
The reverse exposes a coarse, varied shell behind the polished agate rim. Along the thinner edges, warmer translucent passages can appear under stronger light, while the fine druzy interior keeps a more granular sparkle.
