Where natural stone meets anatomical form, this Lapis Lazuli skull brings deep royal blue, pale calcite veining, and scattered golden pyrite into the defined structure of a human skull. Its polished surface reveals the individual color and pattern of the material, giving every piece its own natural character.

The Material
Lapis Lazuli is a natural rock rather than a single mineral. It is composed primarily of lazurite, with varying amounts of calcite, pyrite, and other minerals.
Lazurite produces its characteristic blue color. Calcite often appears as white or pale veining, while pyrite forms metallic golden flecks across the stone. The proportions and distribution of these minerals vary naturally, making differences in color depth, veining, and pyrite placement an inherent part of the material.
The Craft
Each skull is carved from a selected block of natural stone and progressively shaped to define the brow ridge, orbital cavities, nasal opening, cheekbones, teeth, and jawline. Successive stages of grinding and polishing refine the surface while preserving the clarity of the anatomical structure.
Because the carving process responds to the characteristics of the individual material, minor variations in proportion and surface detail may occur.
Form & Meaning
The human skull is one of the most enduring forms in art. Stripped of expression and identity, it reduces the human figure to its underlying structure.
Across different artistic traditions, the skull has been used to reflect on mortality, time, equality, and the material nature of human life. In contemporary stone carving, it creates a direct contrast between a universally recognizable anatomical form and the individual character of natural stone.
EXACT PIECE & CARE
EXACT PIECE
You will receive the exact piece shown, with its unique natural color, banding, inclusions, and patterns.
NATURAL VARIATION
As each piece is individually carved from natural stone, dimensions and weight may vary slightly, while color may appear different under varying lighting.
CARE — Lapiz Lazuli Stone
Lapis Lazuli is softer than quartz-based stones and should be protected from scratching, impact, and contact with harder objects. Avoid acids, alcohol, acetone, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged soaking, as the material may contain calcite and may sometimes be treated with wax or oil.
Remove dust with a clean, soft cloth. If additional cleaning is necessary, use a slightly damp cloth and dry the sculpture promptly.
