A broad bed of violet amethyst crystals spreads beyond the crown of a polished pinkish-grey agate skull. Its horizontal span contrasts with the compact facial structure below, giving the mineral cluster the appearance of an oversized diadem or canopy.

Material & Craft
The Material
This specimen combines a dense pinkish-grey agate matrix with an exposed cluster of amethyst and lighter quartz points. Agate is a compact, microcrystalline variety of quartz that commonly displays banding, marbling, and changes in translucency. Amethyst is the violet variety of crystalline quartz. Here, the smooth agate body provides a subdued base beneath the reflective crystal surfaces. The cluster varies naturally in point size, orientation, color concentration, and spacing as it extends across the crown.
The Sculpture
The solid lower matrix is carved into a human skull with deep eye sockets, defined cheekbones, a structured jaw, and individually separated teeth. Its polished facial surfaces remain visually restrained beneath the irregular crystal formation. The amethyst cluster spreads outward across the entire upper cranium, creating substantial width and weight above the narrower skull. The proportions of the carved base support this enlarged upper silhouette while allowing the original crystal points to remain the dominant feature.
Form & Meaning
A diadem is a head ornament historically used to indicate rank, distinction, or ceremonial status. In this sculpture, that familiar form is replaced by a naturally irregular mineral cluster rather than a manufactured band or crown. The title “The Astral Canopy” refers to the way the crystals extend above and beyond the skull, enlarging its visual boundary. Their outward spread can suggest expanding thought or creative possibility, but the interpretation arises from the composition rather than an attributed effect of the material.
One-of-One Commitment & Care
This is the exact sculpture shown in the photographs. Its crystal formation, color distribution, inclusions, marbling, and natural variations belong to this individual stone. Once acquired, this specimen will not be restocked.
Dimensions and weight are measured by hand and may vary slightly from the stated specifications.
Photographs and videos are intended to represent the piece as accurately as possible. Due to lighting conditions and photographic equipment, slight differences in color and tone may occur.
Care: Wipe the polished agate surfaces gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Remove dust between the crystal points with a soft natural-bristle brush or hand-operated air blower. Do not apply cleaning liquids directly to the exposed cluster.
Handling: Lift the sculpture with both hands supporting the solid lower jaw and base. Do not lift it by the crystal canopy or place pressure on its projecting and overhanging edges.
Storage: Place the sculpture on a stable, level surface with sufficient clearance around the full width of the crystal cluster. Avoid shelf edges, vibration, direct impact, and prolonged sunlight, which may gradually reduce the color intensity of amethyst.
