A polished banded-agate serpent coils around a group of eggs above a cavity filled with violet amethyst crystals. Light passing through thinner areas of the dark agate reveals its internal banding, contrasting with the irregular reflective surfaces of the geode beneath it.

Material & Craft

The Material

This specimen combines violet amethyst crystals with a naturally surrounding layer of dark banded agate. Amethyst is the purple variety of crystalline quartz, while agate consists principally of compact microcrystalline quartz deposited in successive layers. The exposed cavity contains prismatic crystal points of varied size, direction, and color concentration. Around it, the polished agate displays curved bands and areas of translucency that become more visible when illuminated from behind or from the side.

The Sculpture

The serpent is carved from the dark agate bordering the amethyst cavity. Its body follows the rounded perimeter of the specimen and coils around a small group of eggs positioned above the crystal interior. Repeated scale details and a raised head distinguish the serpent from the smoother egg forms beneath it. The polished carving remains physically connected to the geode structure, while the exposed amethyst points form the irregular inner chamber around which the composition is arranged.

Form & Meaning

The title “The Violet Citadel” treats the amethyst-lined cavity as an enclosed stronghold and the coiled serpent as its sentinel. Serpents have acquired varied associations with vigilance, continuity, and renewal, partly through their recurring shedding cycle. The eggs introduce a contrasting image of undeveloped life held within the coil. Together, the forms create a scene of watchfulness and preservation without assigning protective or transformative powers to the material itself.

One-of-One Commitment & Care

This is the exact sculpture shown in the photographs. Its chalcedony formation, host-rock matrix, inclusions, and color distribution belong to this individual stone. Once acquired, this specimen will not be restocked.

Dimensions and weight are measured by hand and may vary slightly from the stated specifications.

Care: Wipe the polished agate serpent and outer matrix gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Remove dust between the amethyst points and carved details with a soft natural-bristle brush or hand-operated air blower. Do not apply cleaning liquids directly inside the crystal cavity.

Handling: Lift the sculpture with both hands supporting the thick lower geode body and base. Do not lift it by the serpent, raised head, eggs, or exposed crystal points.

Storage: Place it on a stable, level surface away from shelf edges, vibration, and high-traffic areas. Leave sufficient clearance around the raised carving and avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may gradually reduce the color intensity of amethyst.
