A Citadel with a Living Keeper
The Violet Citadel belongs to the serpent. Its coils gather around the eggs above an amethyst chamber, making a small, fiercely occupied world. We are fond of guardians that need no armor or throne: a creature, its nest, and the certainty that it will remain.
Treasure Close to the Body
The treasure here is held within the serpent’s coils. The eggs give its vigilance a tenderness we find especially compelling: this is not a creature guarding a throne, but something small and precious. Beneath them, the amethyst cave becomes a natural stronghold, beautiful in its crystals yet still wonderfully wild around the edges.
The Making of This Piece
The Cave Sets the Scale
The broad amethyst opening establishes the lower mass, while the serpent follows the available agate above it. This brings the carved creature into the specimen's existing mineral architecture. The chamber stays open and the guardian stays compact.
A Coil That Holds the Work Together
The serpent’s head rests close to the crystal-lined edge, while its body curves back into a compact coil around the nest. We love how the smooth contours and carefully carved scales give the creature its own character, even as its body follows the irregular shape of the stone. Every curve seems to lead the eye back to the eggs at the heart of the sculpture.
The Stone
Banded Agate and Amethyst
Dark banded agate contrasts with the irregular violet crystal bed. Light can reveal the agate's bands in thinner passages, while the amethyst catches it across many small faces. We enjoy that meeting of a composed outer guardian and a chamber that never reflects light quite evenly.
The polished serpent carries dark areas, lighter bands and warmer translucent-looking passages. The crystal field below remains much less uniform, with pale tips and shadowed purple recesses.
Bands within the Sentinel
The close and illuminated views reveal bands passing through the serpent's carved body. Their paths continue across its curves independently of the scale pattern. Underneath, darker agate frames the cluster, giving the bright cave a denser mineral boundary.
